The incident began on Wednesday, April 19 around 3:30 a.m., when police were alerted of a stolen Honda Civic with Florida plates, according to Westchester County Police Public Information Officer Kieran O'Leary.

Soon, County Police located the vehicle on the Sprain Brook Parkway near the Route 100 exit in Yonkers and tried to pull it over. However, it did not stop and a pursuit began, with state troopers also joining the effort as well.

The stolen Honda then made its way from the Sprain Brook Parkway to the Bronx River and Cross County Parkways before finally exiting at Broad Street in Mount Vernon. There, it continued on local streets, O'Leary said.

Officers then began searching the area and found the car pulling into a parking lot on Monroe Street. At this point, both the driver and a passenger left the vehicle and ran but were caught after a short chase.

The driver, identified as 19-year-old Mount Vernon resident Tyrone Findlay, and a juvenile girl were both arrested.

The girl was later released to her family pending a Westchester County Family Court appearance.

As for Findlay, he was charged with the following:

  • First-degree reckless endangerment;
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property;
  • Fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle;
  • Reckless driving;
  • Endangering the welfare of a child.

He will be arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court on Wednesday.
